As I spent time with my 81-year-old Mom first in a short-term rehabilitation center and later in a long-term care facility, I found it harder and harder to find clothing for her. I wanted clothes that were not only comfortable, but also soft, cozy, durable, and stylish enough to wear both in care and out in public.
I was lucky to find one matching top and pants set that became her “go-to” outfit. She wore it almost every day. But when I searched for another set she would like just as much, I became frustrated by the lack of options. That’s when I realized there was a need.
What is Elderleisure:
Inspired by the idea of athleisure (workout clothes made for everyday wear), elderleisure (the term I coined) is timeless apparel specifically for elderly individuals. It’s clothing that feels good at home or in a care setting yet carries the dignity to be worn proudly in public.
Elderleisure is soft, comfortable, and easy to wear apparel to wear at home or in a care setting yet dignified enough to be worn proudly in public. It fills the gap between clothes that feel too plain or medical-looking and those that are too fancy or impractical.
The creation of the word is just the beginning, now the fun begins.....
