For as long as I can remember, my mom never wanted to be in pictures. As an only child, all the photos were really just of me.
When I became an adult and a mom myself, I'll be honest, I really don't like being in pictures either. But I made a huge effort to be part of pictures with my family, and I think I actually did a pretty good job of it.
Now that my mom has passed away and I'm creating this brand with her in mind, I realized something that makes me sad. I just don't have a lot of pictures of her. And I really wish I did.
I have a few scattered ones from when she was younger, not too many of her with me as a child. It looks like in her 50s and 60s she had some pictures taken, which I can only assume was during a period where she felt in her own words, "super thin and looked cute!"
When the time came for her to move closer to me in those last couple months of her life, there were only a few pictures taken. And as you would expect, they were taken by people who really didn't know her. They didn't know she wouldn't want that picture taken. They wouldn't know that she didn't feel cute enough to be in a picture.
But I knew.
So the pictures I have that are the most recent? I'm grateful to have them. I'm just not ready to post any of them yet. Maybe someday I will change my mind, but for now I'll choose to post pictures that I knew my mom thought she looked cute in.
